The Leicester Triathlon is a brand new event for 2012. This triathlon is set within Watermead Country Park and will provide a test for both experienced and novice triathletes.  

The 1500m open water swim takes place in King Lear’s Lake, the 40km cycle course is on a fast mainly flat one lap route of the A46 and the 10km run takes place along the trails and footpaths within the Country Park.

The inaugural Leicester Olympic Triathlon will take place at the wildlife haven of Watermead Country Park which is easily accessible as it is situated just 5 miles from the Leicester City Centre.

Time: 8:30 a.m.

Swim
The 1500m swim takes place in King Lear’s Lake which is the largest area of water within the park. As well as lead and safety canoes, there will also be sufficient safety cover on the water. Wetsuits will be compulsory for the swim section.

Cycle
The 40km fast mainly flat bike course will take you out of the park and will travel north along the A46 towards Nottingham before turning off at the Upper Broughton/Willoughby junction, cycling over the A46 and heading south back along the A46 towards Leicester.
The course will be clearly signposted and there will be marshals along the course. Cycle helmets will be compulsory and are to be worn throughout the cycle course. The event is non-drafting and mobile BTF referees will be on the course to enforce this.
The cycle route is on open roads and competitors must abide by the Highway Code at all times.

Run
After leaving transition the 10km run course will take you on and out and back route through the Country Park and surrounding area.  The scenic 1 lap course will be mainly tarmac and footpaths and a drink station will be positioned approximately half way.

Additional race information

Race Rules
The event will be held under the rules of the British Triathlon Federation.  For information about race rules please visit www.britishtriathlon.org or contact them on 01509 226161.  Breaking of the rules will result in time penalties and may even result in disqualification.

How can I enter
Either download an application form or enter online. Online entries will receive an email confirmation of entry. Encashment of cheques will confirm postal entries. Postal entries will close on Sunday 1st July 2012.

What will I need?

  • A Wetsuit - wetsuits are compulsory and for those who don’t own their one, they can be hired from our partner Total Fitness Nottingham.  Please visit www.tfn.co.uk or call them on 0115 922 2226 for details.

  • A swimming costume/trunks to be worn under your wetsuit

  • Goggles – advisable but not compulsory

  • A road worthy cycle

  • A cycle helmet – these are compulsory and must be either BSI, ANSI or SNELL approved

  • Running apparel


Registration
All race numbers and racing chips are to be collected at Registration from 7:00 a.m. on the day of the race.  Each competitor will be issued with two race numbers.  One to be pinned on the back for the cycle and the other to be pinned on the front for the run. Elastic belts for race numbers are permitted.

BTF Race Licences
All competitors will be required to have a valid BTF Race licence.  Those athletes who do not have a valid licence will be required to produce some form of photographic identification to stop the exchanging of race entries and to ensure that all competitors are insured to compete in the event.

Parking
There is onsite parking for all competitors and spectators at a cost of £1.50 per day (please bring change for parking machine).

Drinks
There'll be a drink station in transition as well as approximately halfway round the run course.

First Aid
Fully qualified first aiders will be in attendance.

Refreshments
There will be onsite catering available on the day providing hot and cold food and drink.

Camping

Goody Bag
Every competitor will receive a goody bag at the end of the race.

Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for each age group.

Toilets
There will be toilets close to the transition area for entrants and there are toilets a short walk away for spectators.

Sports Massage
There will be complimentary Deep Tissue Massage post race provided by Fire & Earth Sports Massage.
